Corinda Hobart Garden Open House Hobart Sunday 5 November

One of Hobart’s biggest and best located private homes, Corinda was built in the 1880s by wealthy timber merchant Alfred Crisp. Specialty timbers, including Tasmanian blackwood and Huon pine and used throughout this fine house atop Hobart’s historic Glebe, with views of kunanyi Mt Wellington and the Derwent Estuary.

More than 100 years after Alfred Crisp’s death, Corinda and its lavish gardens are still very much as he left them – and now a boutique hotel.

Visit the unusual river stone courtyard, see the historic convict wall from the property’s days as a market garden, and keep an eye out for the fantail doves that call Corinda home.

Half-hourly tours take in Corinda’s history, including the drawing room and upstairs balcony overlooking Corinda’s formal parterre garden toward kunanyi Mt Wellington.
