Designed by prominent architect Henry Hunter and opened in 1866, the grand Hobart Town Hall was constructed of sandstone quarried from nearby Bridgewater and Knocklofty. Originally housing the police force and magistrates court, the building also boasts a grand ballroom and what is considered to be one of the finest historical pipe organs in Australia.
