A number of unique ornamental rustic huts were built on the lower slopes of kunanyi/Mount Wellington between 1890 and 1920. These huts were created out of local materials by groups of young people looking to escape their workaday lives in the city. Their energy and enthusiasm produced not only the huts themselves, but corresponding bridges, verandahs, pathways, archways, and rustic furniture, all in the Arts & Crafts movement style. This short walk will take you to the remains of a couple of these lost structures.
