The Findlay Project (Tasmania’s women in architecture group) along with the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA) invite you to celebrate the work of the Stage B entrants of the Cascades Female Factory History and Interpretation Centre design competition at the exhibition launch.

In 2017, PAHSMA ran a competition for the design of a new Cascades Female Factory History and Interpretation Centre, attracting architectural practices from around the world.

The three-stage competition invited designs that presented a contemporary and sympathetic response to the profound history of the Cascades Female Factory.  The aim was to enshrine the legacy of convict women through the acknowledgement of their endeavours which have laid the social, cultural and political foundations that we take for granted today. It was intended that one reflection of this legacy could be achieved by fostering female leadership and participation in the project.
